The 1st Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Overseas Chinese Businessman Cooperation Summit Held in Shenzhen to Build an Exchange Platform for Entrepreneurs in the Greater Bay Area

On November 3, the 1st Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Overseas Chinese Businessman Cooperation Summit & the inauguration ceremony for the 7th session of directors and supervisors of the Shenzhen Overseas Chinese International Association were held in Shenzhen as organized by the Shenzhen Overseas Chinese International Association jointly with the Friends of Hong Kong Association and the Macau-Shenzhen Economic and Cultural Promotion Association.

Huang Mengfu, vice chairman of the 10th and 11th National Committee of CPPCC and former vice chairman of China Federation of Industry and Commerce and Li Zhaoxing, former minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered speeches at the summit. Important leaders and guests attending the summit include, among others, Edmund Ho Hau-wah, vice chairman of the 13th National Committee of CPPCC, Li Haifeng, vice chairman of the 12th National Committee of CPPCC, Li Changjiang, deputy director of the Committee for Liaison With Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the 11th National Committee of CPPCC, Zhang Guoying, chairman of Guangdong Provincial Committee for the Wellbeing of the Youth, Lin Jie, member of the standing CPC committee of Shenzhen and head of the United Front Work Department of Shenzhen, and Ai Xuefeng, deputy mayor of Shenzhen. Relevant leaders from the central government, Guangdong provincial government and Shenzhen municipal goverment also attended the summit.

Mei Hing Chak, the new chairman of the Shenzhen Overseas Chinese International Association and president of Heung Kong Group delivered a passionate and exciting speech at the summit. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is an important spatial carrier for constructing a world-class city agglomeration and participating in global competition, and also a national strategy designed and promoted by President Xi Jinping, she said. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge which was officially put into use on October 24, 2018 is of extraordinary strategic significance for improving the comprehensive competitiveness of the region and constructing the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

In her inauguration speech, Mei Hing Chak said that since its establishment, the Shenzhen Overseas Chinese International Association always adheres to the purpose of “Serve the members, serve economic development and serve the social philanthropy cause” by making continual reforms and innovations, seizing the trend and making achievements in new times. Through its own efforts, the association is always at the forefront of reform and development among overseas Chinese associations, and is praised by the Overseas Chinese Office of the State Council and the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese as the “Shenzhen Model” of overseas Chinese associations.
